Sports and Recreation will become a
"formal" area of ministry during the next several months. The
focus will be to provide opportunities to develop and enhance personal
relationships between the members of Lakehills Covenant Church and the
Community at large.
True fellowship is borne of coming together to serve
a common purpose. As Christians our purpose is summed up by the Great
Commandment (Mark 12:29-31) and fulfilled by actively pursuing the Great
Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). God calls each of us to evangelism and
discipleship. Sports and Recreation ministries seeks to intensify our
commitment to these causes by offering avenues to extend invitations to
family and friends to activities and events that will be non-threatening
to non-believers. Through the incorporation of opening and closing
prayer, brief devotionals, and/or sharing personal testimonies, we will
at the same time make every effort to leave no doubt about whom we are
in Christ.
In addition, it is hoped that the sharing of common
and enjoyable experiences between our members will bind us closer
together as a family. Deepening friendships within the body of Christ
serves as a gateway for encouraging one another, becoming accountable to
one another, and to devoting ourselves to the teachings of the gospel
and to the fellowship, which is the true nature of the church as it was
intended to be (Acts 2:42).
Make no mistake – we live in a community that
provides ample opportunity for leisure activities and comfortable
lifestyles. Most of our neighbors and us are affluent enough to take
advantage of the pleasures that the area has to offer. This IS our
worldly competition and we must commit ourselves to win the right to
share the truth about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ – not for His
sake, but for the sake of those whom we love and those whom we ought to
love! To best our competition we must provide activities that are truly
fun, easy in which to become involved, and that give us the chance to
openly exhibit the Love of Christ Jesus.
